The Gaelic name for the Buckthorn is Muin (pron. ‘mwin’). Muin is a symbol of protection. In folklore, muin is potent, protective and compelling – so powerful that it was only touched by skilled hands, who could harness its ability to heal while staying mindful of its dark side. Muin represents the light and dark in us, and how we find strength when we accept and embrace both.
